Stephen Ng - Marketing Consultant, Media Strategist

Trained as a chemist, Stephen Ng proves that with a little drive and determination, a scientist equipped with an analytical mind and a burst of creative energy can go a long way in other fields.

Ng’s portfolio which spans over two decades of his working life from 1987 through 2007 covers a wide area of discipline. Having earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Monash University, Australia, he had worked first as a chemist, later became the Laboratory Manager, before going into Sales Management with a local chemical company in Petaling Jaya. Ng also played a major role in developing the ISO 9002 system at Union Carbide's factory in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan.G

As a man with many interests, self-initiated and a multi-tasker, his great passion for marketing has driven him to complete a postgraduate diploma with the Chartered Institute of Marketing through a correspondence course. Having developed a strong passion and creativity for marketing, he was headhunted thereafter to join Monash University campus in Malaysia as its Senior Marketing Manager.

In his employment with Monash University Malaysia, he had created a lot of hype in both the print and electronic media around the Monash Malaysia name, bridging the gap of what was already well-known about Monash Australia and its the newly-established Malaysia campus in Bandar Sunway. The rest is history, when he later joined two other education institutions in his capacity as Director of Corporate Communications. He was also the man behind the media hype prior to the public listing of Salcon Engineering.

Before 2003, Ng’s knowledge about the financial sector was almost nil; two years later, he completed five modules of CFP TM (Certified Financial Planning) and was picked as the best student to receive the Award of Excellence for Tax Planning.

In his spare time, Ng was a prolific photo-journalist with The Malay Mail and The New Straits Times for over a decade before moving on to The Star in 2007. He has published his pocket-sized book of 121 pages, “God loved my father” and is in midst of writing several more.
